John C. Marquardt, 71 passed away on May 25, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Jacksonville after courageously struggling with injuries from a motorcycle accident two years ago. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Jack and Jeannette Marquardt. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University where he met the late Ann Marquardt, his wife of 34 years. The first half of his career he worked for FPL at their power plants; before changing course and becoming a self-employed contractor for 12 years. Being passionate about sailing, John and Ann chose to live aboard the “EASY” for several years and traveled frequently to the Bahamas. More recently John worked as a much esteemed property manager and overseer for many private residences throughout Martin County, becoming indispensable to his clients, typically forming deep friendships. John was extremely talented professionally and there was no job he wouldn’t tackle. His personal vigor also amazed many shown by his devotion to his wife, mother, and friends. During his wife’s extended illness he was an exceedingly dedicated caregiver, and then later he selflessly visited his mother in her nursing home daily for more than five years doing such things as bringing Thanksgiving dinner to her caretakers.
He is remembered for being an extremely helpful, caring, and engaging friend. John Marquardt never knew a stranger, enjoyed a diverse group of friends, and his stories entertained young and old alike. He leaves behind a brother Tom in CO, and a sister Kathleen in CT.
A gathering of friends is planned to pay tribute to John Marquardt’s life of extraordinary talent and virtue at the Long home, at 1770 NE 23rd Terrace (Leilani Heights), Jensen Beach at 5pm on Friday, June 8, 2018.
